At a mammoth 302 feet (92 meters) long, the blimp-like Airlander 10 is the largest aircraft currently flying.

Though it looks like a massive blimp , theAirlander 10combines engineering from airplanes , helicopters and airship . It is designed to stay aloft at altitudes of up to 20,000 substructure ( 6,100 meters ) for up to five days when manned , according to Hybrid Air Vehicles , the company that build the aircraft . On May 10 , the Airlander 10 fly for a sum of 180 minutes to test the aircraft ’s treatment , amend landing engineering and more , allot to Hybrid Air Vehicles . This was only the third trajectory of the Airlander 10 . It first debut as HAV-304 , and successfully fly in 2012 as part of the U.S. Army ’s Long Endurance Multi - intelligence Vehicle political platform . The reimagined and modified Airlander 10 made itsmaiden voyage   in August 2016 , plain off a flight trial program to assess the aircraft ’s performance and assay to fly the airship far away from its home in Cardington , England .

This latest trajectory had two main objectives , beyond safely complete a takeoff , escape and landing . During the successful run flying , the Airlander 10 " handled marvelously , " said Dave Burns , the Airlander 10 ’s chief psychometric test buffer . A statement from Hybrid Air Vehicles said the flight of steps test squad was " very pleased " with its initial analysis of the Airlander 10 .

Hybrid Air Vehicles say the Airlander 10 could one day be used for lookup and rescue mission , by delimitation ascendancy agents , for crew monitoring , security system , filming or academic research .
