Best friend helps with engagement photos when ring is too small for bride

A New York-based bride got a literal helping hand from her friend to complete her surprise engagement in October.

AfterNicolette Koske’s now-husband, David Koske, got down on one knee and popped the question, she couldn’t wait to flaunt her ring.

However, its size stood in the way of her getting any sweet photos at the grassy location where Nicolette’s best friend, Isa Haiti, lured her to take “couple photos” with their boyfriends — a front to disguise David’s plan to propose.

Luckily, Nicolette came up with a solution and her BFF was on hand to help. Haiti slipped on the ring and stood next to the couple but just out of frame, with only her blinged-out hand posed as if it were the bride’s.

Nicolette shared the photo result in anow-viral TikTokset to Bruno Mars’ song “Marry You” and explained how Haiti helped capture the moment.

“When [you] get engaged but the ring is too small so you’re [sic] bestie comes in clutch,” Nicolette wrote in overlaying text. In the video’s caption, she added, “No one will know 🤫.”

The clip — which now has nearly 2 million views — delighted TikTok users and even tricked a few into thinking Haiti’s hand did actually belong to Nicolette.

“Not me thinking your foundation color was too light,” someone commented on the post. Another wrote, “I would have never known if you didn’t say anything!”

Other commenters praised loyal friend Haiti’s job well done: “She had her nails cute and everything 😂😂😂,” read one comment.

While their sneaky optical illusion did manage to fool some viewers, Nicolette tells PEOPLE they were putting a spin on another TikTok she’d seen before.

“Someone got engaged and her nails weren’t done so she used her friend’s manicured hands for pictures,” Nicolette explains of her inspiration. “I thought of that and thought it would be hysterical to put the ring on my (Black) best friend and make it seem like it was my (Hispanic) hand. Which obviously was the joke.”

“When I realized the ring was too small, it didn’t make a difference. [I was] only disappointed I couldn’t show it off properly,” Nicolette tells PEOPLE.
