It’s all about pronunciation, apparently.
AWheel of Fortuneguest named Shauna Williams solved a puzzle on the game show Wednesday night, but didn’t get the points. That’s because she had an incorrect pronunciation of the word when she read the answer back.
The “Same Letter” category gave an answer that read: “congenial company & clever conversation.” The first word was tricky for Williams to pronounce, and hostPat Sajakwasn’t eager to give the points away without perfect delivery.
“Uh, no,” Sajak replied when Williams said the word wrong. The answer then went on to her rival, Steve Sporre, who pronounced the answer correctly and gained the points for Williams’ solved riddle.
Williams’ game show blunder is far from the first televised moment to catch the attention — and laughs — of viewers. Last year, one puzzle was unsolvable to contestants when Sajak asked players to solve a line that read “Feather in your cap.” Some viewers poked fun at the players for the missed answer.
“It always pains me when nice people come on our show to play a game and win some money and maybe fulfill a lifelong dream, and are then subject to online ridicule when they make a mistake or something goes awry,” Sajak said at the time. “Last night’s ‘Feather in your cap’ puzzle was a case in point. Sitting at home, it seems incredible that they couldn’t solve it, but I knew in real time what was happening.”
