Many people have liken superheroes to gods , but few have taken the route of San Francisco ’s Justin Lamb , who ’s endeavor to make the point through comedy in his raw one - man stomach - up show , Hero Worship . forwards of tonight ’s premiere , we speak to Lamb about where the show come from . Described as “ [ using ] multimedia system and original standup material to explore everything from Darkseid to dreidels , ” Lamb ’s show lead one of his puerility fascinations to its coherent ending … or somewhere close to it , at least , as he explain to us :
It ’s a lighthearted feel at religion and other aspect of superhero culture that we retrieve muse in our day-after-day life . As a kid , Spiderman and Superman seemed more accessible as gods ( mostly because their books had more characterisation ) and their lessons were pretty much the same – do n’t kill , do n’t slip , stay by from evildoer .
Well , perchance not “ stay out from sinner ” as much as “ get penny-pinching to them and punch them until they see the error of their ways , ” but you could see his point . Such moral lessons led to the instauration of Hero Worship ’s investigating :
I wanted to do a show explore why superheroes and comic book culture have gotten so popular of late . I started researching it and started find a lot of uncanny little similarities between superheroes and faith , which has a nice minuscule nerd following of it ’s own if you have n’t detect . I marvel if subconsciously , do the things that attract people to these religions also pull people to these hoagie .
Not that the show ’s all dry intellectual exploration , of course :
The show is definitely comedy … It ’s arrant for anyone who wish superheroes , religion , or getting drunk while express mirth with a swot as he compulsively mouth about something he ’s really into .
