Uga X, the former bulldog mascot for the University of Georgia, has died. He was 10.
The beloved pup, fondly known as “Que,” died “peacefully in his sleep” on Tuesday morning, according to anannouncementfrom UGA Athletics. Born May 27, 2013, Uga X began his time at the university at age 2 in a collaring ceremony during the Georgia-Georgia Southern football game on Nov. 21, 2015.
During his time with the team, Georgia held a 91-18 football record, made seven New Year’s Six bowl appearances, won two SEC titles, and secured two back-to-back national championships. He became “the most decorated of all the Bulldog mascots” and retired after the 2022 season.
Georgia Gov. Brian Kempwrote on X, “Que leaves behind a historic legacy and will forever be in the hearts of the entire Dawg Nation. Rest in peace to a DGD!”
The Georgia FootballX accountthanked the pup for his service, sharing a photo of him alongside the text, “Thank you, Que, Uga X.” Uga XI — Uga X’s son — became the team’s official mascot after his dad’s retirement.

According to the university, the 1-year-old, also known as Boom, stepped into his new role ahead of the Bulldogs' 2023 G-Day game in April and made his regular season debut in September.
The bulldog mascot tradition began in 1956 when Uga I, belonging to Sonny and Cecelia Seiler, appeared at a game. Since then, the family has served as the caretakers for the UGA line.

“Que traditionally starts barking for his breakfast around 5:30 a.m. This morning, Boom waited until 6:00 a.m. to let us know he was ready for his breakfast so he’ll be a little later each day,” he told the outlet.
