Last June , we natter the Atlanta set of Avengers : Infinity War and talked to the Russos about the herculean task ahead of them . They were n’t just shooting Avengers : Infinity War , but also the ungentle quaternary Avengers picture show immediately afterwards . Both moving picture incorporate several dozen character , multiple storylines , and the weight of the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe , make them not just a huge , two - movie saga but two elephantine , last chapters of a undivided floor — the conclusion to the epic Marvel began 10 years ago , when Iron Man premiere in 2008 .

“ We utilize them as inspiration for narration imagery , ” Joe Russo say . “ It ’s hard to find movies with this many character . you may look at [ Robert ] Altman cinema , which have a tendency to be more veritè . Two Days in the Valley has a narrative poking to it and had an energy that we were look for . Again , just strictly something inspire us in the room when we ’re working on the script . ”
“ I imagine you ’ll see several dissimilar styles employed in the moving-picture show , ” Anthony Russo added . “ Because the chemistry is unlike in each sequence and the needs of each sequence are different . ”
Of course , the Russos also looked at all the different MCU pic as well . In set for Infinity War , the brothers essentially verbalize to each of the Marvel filmmaker for various form of input . James Gunn , for example , is an executive manufacturer on the film and helped integrate the Guardians of the Galaxy into the picture . “ For the movies that have n’t been completed , that ’s where it get into a catchy place for us , ” Joe Russo said . “ We want to ensure we ’re being sensible to what ’s happening during the execution of those pic [ and ] the summons of discovery that they will go through in the writ of execution that ’s unlike from what was on the page in the scripts . So that ’s really where it becomes critical that we pass with other hoi polloi , just to sympathise how thing are develop while we ’re execute , while they ’re executing … ”

The original Infinity Gauntlet story became a classic in heavy part because Thanos is Marvel ’s biggest , baddest villain . This meant the Russos had to make him the same in the film — despite the Marvel Cinematic Universe already containing some imposingly diabolical bad guys .
“ Our job with Thanos is to make him the leading baddie in the Marvel Universe , ” Joe Russo say . “ That is his function in the cartoon strip . That ’s his role in these moving picture . And to be a preeminent villain , you have to do some pretty bad thing . ”
There ’s an implication here that some of these beloved heroes are go to croak . And though the Russos would n’t get into much item , of track , they talked about how crucial the stake are for a taradiddle this expectant .
“ We wish mature storytelling . We like dramatic storytelling . We like intense storytelling . I think we revalue conflict and we appreciate stakes . And without stakes , there really is n’t a lot of economic value to the write up , ” Joe Russo said . “ And I think if you take care at the Marvel Universe as a whole , as a level that ’s been told for 10 year , you could count at this as the climax . And the stake will be higher in this movie than they ’ve ever been , times 10 . ”

“ If you were to think of the Marvel Universe over the last 10 year as a book , this is the termination of the Scripture , ” Anthony Russo explained . “ There may be new books written , but this is certainly the finish of this book . ”
