degraded receiving set bursts ( FRBs ) , incredibly abbreviated but very powerful emission of tuner undulation , were only come across in the last 15 year or so . Their exact reason is a thing of debate ; astronomers have discovered somethat repeat regularlyand others that seem to be a one - off event . astronomer have now discovered a large issue of new repeating firearm , and their belongings – different from old detections – might be telling us something profound about the nature of all FRBs .
research worker with the Canadian Hydrogen Intensity Mapping Experiment ( CHIME ) observation tower have more than doubled the number of repeated FRBs spotted by the telescope , adding 25 more to the 21 already known . “ When first repeating FRBs were discovered , we key a few very combat-ready sources . For some of these , we see multiple bursts per hour . “ It is potential that there ’s some sort of continuum of repetition rates . You have some very active repeating source and some infrequently retell sources . And maybe it is possible that everything we see as non - repeating in reality is ; we just have n’t had the time or the sensitivity yet to see the repetition abound ! ”
