What if the Allies had fall back World War II , the Nazis had been first to develop the nuclear bomb calorimeter , and the Germans and Japanese had carved up control of United States ? That ’s the assumption of the novel streaming series fromAmazon , The Man in the High Castle — an adaptation of the 1962 script by the same name . And the show is fantastic .
national socialist brownshirts control New York City streets , San Francisco is lorded over by Nipponese police , and postwar boob tube plot shows conspicuously sport Nazis in full array . The the great unwashed of the United States seem to more or less live with their destiny . Except , of course , for a ring of exemption fighters not contented with the style that their former foeman rule this alt - America with an branding iron clenched fist .
The new serial publication is a dark and moody portrait of an America that could have been . And I really ca n’t get enough . The production design is wonderful , the cinematography is phenomenal , and the performing is brilliant . The Man in the High Castle truly seems to transcend the pitfall of so much literary genre fabrication by rent the raw world lap over you rather than scream that thing are n’t right with the space that these characters inhabit .

The tending to detail is exceptional , and even though I ’ve only watch out the pilot film once , I ’m sure the series will reinforce repeat regard , ply itgets picked up at all . Amazon has a strange scheme where it delivers a cluster of pilots at once and then only produces more episodes for shows that do well . It makes sense , but can be such a tease for a show that you get invested in after just one sequence . I ca n’t wait to see episode two , but for the sentence being you’re able to count I ’ll happily watch the first sequence again .
Countless Bible and brusk story by legendary sci - fi author Philip K. Dick have been conform for the screen . Minority Report , A Scanner Darkly , and of row the 1982 classic Blade Runner , adapted from Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep ? rank and file among the most popular adaptations . But The humans In The High Castle is plainly a different experience in so many way . Rather than be faced with the futuristic gesture control screen of Minority Report or the flying gondola of Blade Runner , we ’re presented a dissimilar kind of “ hereafter , ” if you will . A future wherein the past has changed , not tomorrow .
If the first episode is any indicant , this series stands on its own as a fascinating piece of alt - account — a genre that at its speculative bludgeons you over the fountainhead with reminders of how clever the creators are , and at its just dissects important societal and ethnic issues of today .

It ’s toilsome to gauge an entire series by just the first episode , but given what we ’ve seen so far , this one is at least worth 60 minutes of your metre . [ Amazon Prime Instant ]
