Facebook has plans to change its name as shortly asnext week , according to a newfangled report fromthe Verge , and it ’s no surprisal why . The social media heavyweight ’s brand has become toxic after years of scandals , from theCambridge Analytica datum debacletohelping promote violence in Myanmar .
But Facebook is far from the first company to hear a bold new rebrand after its name became associated with harming society in some fundamental mode . There ’s a long custom in the U.S. of companies alter their names , only to keep doing the same honest-to-god awful shit they were always doing .
Today , we ’re taking a tone at a few of the companies that changed their gens because they became too controversial , like agribusiness giant Monsanto and tobacco company Philip Morris , or because they were trying urgently to rebrand as something more healthy , like Dunkin ’ sinker .

Unlike Facebook , at least Dunkin ’ Donuts never fueledgenocide in Myanmar . They just make donuts , coffee , and other dainty , as far as we ’re aware .
