If you ’ve ever look through your parents ' vintage photos from when they were younger , you might have stumbled across some jarring mental image — cogent evidence that , in a unlike decade , some of them were kind of … hip , perhaps even edgy or downright cool .
Nowadays , so many of us covet all thing vintage . We wish we could last in the 1980s strong-armer scene or the 1970s disco geological era or the free passion sixties . And , for many of us , these are precisely the decades in which our parent got to be youthful and hip .

Circa early 1980s
While our parents did n’t have the net back then , they did have cameras — and the manner gumption and attitude to look good in front of the lens . Of course , what our parent also did n’t have was smartphones , cyberbullying , and YouTube celebrities . Our parents live their lives in the real domain and in the moment – and were all the cooler for it .
That ’s not to say that any generation , even theirs , is without vexation and woefulness . But the pressures then were n’t quite the same — your parent only had to keep up with the Joneses , not the Kardashians .
Without Facebook and Netflix , our parent ’s generation had time to find out to ride unicycle and go to mermaid tryouts at Disneyland . They develop epical beards and wore stylishly chic outfits without an Instagram profile to show it off . They lived for their friend and their car , and they swore to never , ever be as un - coolheaded astheirparents .

Even if your parents were n’t as " pelvic arch " as those figure in the vintage photos from the 1960s-1980s above , they probably did n’t even care . And that right there puts them in the upper echelon of cool .
