This list could have been 100 items long — especially after I ask some of my Twitter and Facebook chirrup for mesmerism and everybody had a particular favorite . It was really hard to whittle this down to just a unretentive list , so please pipe up up with all the stuff I unforgivably left out .
Update : the great unwashed brought up some pretty glaring deletion , so I decided to add five of them to the literal list , since I was embarrassed to have leave them out !

Oh , and there are spoilers for honest-to-god stories ahead …
Charlie ( Felicia Day ) goes to visit her dying mamma one last time and reads The Hobbit to her , and if you’re able to get through that scene without losing your shit , then there might be something wrong with you .
First Arthur and Guinevere are reunify all too briefly , then Merlin vanishes . And then … the fall of Camelot . The death of all the mass . The passing of a legend . The whole last act is incredibly sad .

Atreyu ’s horse Artax gets swallowed up by the swamps of sorrowfulness , and so do we . Though really , this whole picture is a non - stop tearjerker .
Prince Lir ’s speech is incredibly affect , but so is a ton of other clobber in Peter S. Beagle ’s book . Beagle is a master of characterization and storytelling , and he creates a beautiful fable that sticks with you .
Towards the end of the manga , Alphonse sacrifices his life to get his brother Edward ’s original limb back for the final conflict , and Faith Erin Hicks says this is a major weepy moment .

Grant Morrison ’s graphic novel about cyborg animals on the run will wreck pretty much anyone who reads it . Without give too much away , it does n’t become out that well for all three of the animate being , and their weird broken English just makes the whole affair that much more affecting . So . Sad .
This book is full of super - sorry moments , but especially some of the termination . enjoin Christopher Cevasco , “ near the end , the scene in which Rosemund finally succumbs . When that apple roll across the base , I utterly lose it . Devastating . ”

This could have been just another adventure for Captain Picard , where he know another polish and is moved as a result — but instead , the gadget where Picard lives a whole life sentence on another planet makes this improbably potent . particularly when Picard determine “ his ” married woman decease . All the tears . Also deserving mentioning : the Deep Space Nine episode “ The Visitor . ”
Brad Bird ’s movie version of Ted Hughes ’ classic tiddler ’s book is just incredibly powerful stuff . specially the giant robot ’s final forfeiture . Including the giant ’s line : “ I am not a gun . ” And “ Superman . ”

I just rewatched Galaxy Quest the other day , because it was on TV , and this movie is so good it make me mad at all other moving picture for not being it . Anyway , the bit where Alexander finally say “ By Grabthar ’s Hammer , you will be … avenged , ” except that it ’s no longer the dim catchphrase he detest but a heartfelt yell of brokenheartedness and respect .
When Wesley break in Illyria ’s arms , and she asks if he wants her to lie in to him now . And she does , and it ’s improbably sweet and sorry . Runner up : When Fred is lost incessantly , in “ Hole in the World , ” and her last words are asking Wesley to tell her parent she was n’t afraid . And then , “ Why ca n’t I appease ? ” Oof .
The bit where Wall - E has “ died ” and Eve is stress to revive him is … there are pretty much no words . Because you do n’t require any . It ’s just pure and

moderately much all the Sam / Frodo stuff towards the end , specially in the movie with Sean Astin bring his full acting power . “ I made a hope , Mr Frodo . A hope . ‘ Do n’t you leave him Samwise Gamgee . ’ And I do n’t mean to . ” And Sam carrying Frodo . And then at the end , “ You bow to no - one . ”
Spock ’s dying scene , where he sacrifice himself to save the Enterprise and then pledges perpetual friendship to Kirk , is incredibly affecting . But if that does n’t get you , the funeral scene totally will . Scotty plays the bagpipe and Kirk speak the eulogy , stumbling over the watchword “ human . ” instantaneous nuclear meltdown .

citizenry brought up David Tennant ’s swansong , which is also incredibly rent - jerking as well . But for my money , the remnant of “ Vincent and the Doctor , ” where he read Van Gough to the Louvre , is just … heart - rending .
